Hand felted flower brooches are great accessories for winter. You can create flowers in different shapes and colors. You will be able to wear them attached either to your dress, your business casual outfit, a coat or even a hat. Such flower brooches are great handmade gifts to your loved ones.
The diversity of nature always inspires me. I suggest we make a felted flower brooch that will look like a water lily this time.
We will need some felting wool, bubble wrap, water and soap to make our flower.
I start with hand felting a large number of purple colored wool pieces in shapes of flower petals. To make petals we lay out pieces of wool on a bubble wrap. I normally try to make my petals long and somewhat narrow. When all the petals are formed I wet them with water and soap. I cover my wool with another layer of bubble wrap and squeeze it gently to speed up felting. After good 15-20 minutes of pressing and stroking my wool petals are ready.
At first I planned on making two-colored flower brooch and hand felted pieces of white wool as well. Later I changed my mind and created a purple colored brooch adding a few white shiny beads instead.
After my wool petals dried up I arrange them into different patterns to find the one I like the most. It’s easy to do it while they are not yet attached and turned into an actual brooch. It’s always fun to lay out different designs with different pieces of felted wool.
After I figure out what exactly I want to do with my wool flower petals, I attach all my numerous purple colored felted wool pieces to a hand crocheted base. To accent the color I normally add tiny beads that look like small flower stamen.
The brooch is ready to wear now!
